What's the Point of American Idol?

Hi Guys,
I'll get to the point of my article at the bottom but first, here are my predictions for the show. I think that Micheal will go off this week, like Simon said he doesn't really have a shot at winning. Although, Scott is in real trouble, as well ,so it may come down to the two of them. It's nothing against their personalities they seem like the type of guys that you can hang out with but they're just lagging behind everybody else. I'll leave you with this question: what is the point of American Idol? I love the show. I have great fun watching it but it seems they put more effort into getting people to watch the show than they (the producers) do in making sure the winner is successful. For example, David Cook was one of the best winners they've ever had. I haven't heard so much as a hiccup from him. So, what's the point?
